What Is a Store Integration?

A store integration is the software link between where a brand sells, such as a Shopify store or TikTok Shop, and the warehouse system that ships its orders. Once connected, data moves between the two without manual entry.

Integrations are what make outsourced fulfillment feel seamless to both the brand and its customers.

How It Works

Most store integrations sync a few core types of data:

  • Orders: new orders flow from the store to the warehouse.
  • Tracking: shipping details flow back to the store and customer.
  • Inventory: available quantities update in the store as stock moves.
  • Products: SKUs and barcodes stay matched between systems.

Why It Matters for Ecommerce Brands

Without a reliable integration, someone has to copy orders, update stock and paste tracking by hand. That is slow, and it introduces errors that customers notice, such as late shipping updates or products shown in stock that are already gone.

For example, when a customer orders two items and a gift note on a Shopify store, the integration passes the order, the item SKUs and the note to the warehouse. After the order ships, it sends tracking back so the customer gets a shipping email automatically.

When choosing a 3PL, brands should check that each of their sales channels connects directly, ask how often inventory syncs, and confirm how bundles, order tags and special instructions pass through. They should also check integrations for tools beyond the store, such as returns platforms.

Integrations also matter during changes, such as adding a new sales channel or switching 3PLs, when settings must be checked again.
