What Is Order Accuracy Rate?

Order accuracy rate is a fulfillment metric that measures how often orders ship correctly. An accurate order contains the right products, in the right sizes, colors and quantities, sent to the right address. It is one of the most important measures of a warehouse's or 3PL's performance.

How It Works

The basic calculation is the number of orders shipped without errors divided by total orders shipped, multiplied by 100. Errors include wrong items, missing items, wrong quantities and orders sent to the wrong address. Some providers measure accuracy internally through audits, while brands often track it through customer complaints, returns with reason codes and reship records.

Common ways warehouses improve accuracy include:

  • Barcode scanning at the pick and at the pack
  • Clear bin labeling and organized storage
  • Weight checks that flag packages heavier or lighter than expected
  • Separate locations for similar-looking SKUs

Why It Matters for Ecommerce Brands

Every error costs money: a reship, return postage, a refund or replacement product, plus customer service time. Errors also damage trust and can lead to negative reviews. Even a small difference in accuracy adds up across thousands of orders.

For example, a brand shipping 5,000 orders a month at 98 percent accuracy has about 100 problem orders. At 99.8 percent, that drops to about 10. That is the difference between a constant stream of support tickets and an occasional one. When comparing fulfillment providers, brands should ask how accuracy is measured and what scanning or verification steps are used.
